What To Look For In A Car Care Service Shop When Choosing One To Maintain Your Vehicle

Posted on

Car care services are essential for your vehicle, and proper maintenance will optimize the performance while extending the service life of the car or truck. Finding a car care shop that can handle all your service needs quickly and reasonably priced can be a challenge but is not impossible if you know what to look for.

Certified Shops

One of the first things to look for in any car care shop you are considering is a certified shop that has certified technicians working for them. Several certifications exist in the auto repair industry but look for an ASE-certified shop to ensure you get the best car care possible.

ASE or automotive service excellence is a certification offered through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence and is the most comprehensive certification in the automotive industry. The ASE provides certifications for techs, service advisors, and shops. Anyone carrying them has been tested in detail to ensure they have the highest level of knowledge and skill in the area they are working.

These are demanding certifications to obtain, so any shop that uses only ASE-certified people is striving to provide the best car care services possible. The shop will display the certificate prominently, and the techs often wear patches indicating the level they are certified at on their shirt sleeves.

Comprehensive Care

Car care centers that offer limited services or radio maintenance are okay for a quick oil change, but looking for a shop that provides maintenance on the entire vehicle is often a better choice. When you take your car in for services, a shop that checks over the whole vehicle for you is essential to keeping the vehicle running properly.

Anytime the vehicle goes in for an oil change or another service is an opportunity to check the brakes, tires, exhaust, belts, and other systems on the car. Taking your vehicle to a shop that does that may mean waiting a little longer for the service to be completed, but the result can be discovering issues with the vehicle that you should correct to avoid a problem down the road.

Preventative maintenance is essential, and any shop that takes it seriously can reduce the chance of breakdowns with your vehicle and keep you safe on the road. Some of these shops are small local garages with a dedicated staff that you can get to know personally, and others are not. But if they are looking out for you and your car, the shop is a good one to use for regular care and maintenance.

Start checking out local auto service shops to get your car taken care of.
